Before you throw away or E-Recycle a computer, take out the hard drives. You can put them in an encasing, like this one, to use them with any other computer; giving you a $6 external hard drive. Just make sure that your hard drive fits!

Fire up your 3DS, ‘Cause lots has happened today!

First, you probably want to update your 3DS — That’s System Settings —> Other (Pg. 4) —> System Update.

Then, head over to the E-shop! Swapnote, the super-cool replacement to Pictochat, is out! It’s free, so hurry up and download it; Packed with Photo and sound attachments, as well as 3D notes and stationery’s, PLUS Streetpass/Spotpass message exchange, AND date stamps (so that the receiver thinks that you’ve sent it before, or so that they can’t open it until that date), this offer is too good to miss!

Requirements:

Nintendo 3DS

Ubuntu (you can use a Live USB stick with persistence. Try LiLi)

An Internet connection (to download packages.)

First, set up a local web server. Here’s how to do so:

I’ll run down the steps to do so:

1. Open Terminal

2. Run this command: sudo apt-get install mysql-client mysql-server php5 php5-gd php5-mysql phpmyadmin

3. When that’s done, run this command: sudo ln -sf /usr/share/phpmyadmin/ /var/www/Manage\ Server

4. Now, type in sudo gedit /etc/apache2/sites-enable/000-default

5. Find “AllowOverride None”, and change it to “AllowOverride All”

6. Save the file.

7. Run sudo a2enmod rewrite

8. Now, open your file browser (like nautilus, thunar or dolphin)

9. Navigate to /var/www

10. type in sudo chmod 777 -R /var/www

11. Drag whatever Picture files you want on your 3DS to /var/www

12. type in sudo chmod 777 -R /var/www

13. Type in sudo chmod 777 -R /usr/share/phpmyadmin/

14. Delete index.html

15. Find your IP address and enter it in your 3DS’s Internet Browser as a URL

16. Click the image’s filename.

17. Click “Save Image”

18. Repeat for each image

19. Move all your pictures out of the /var/www folder, as they can be seen by anyone on  your Wi-Fi Network with your IP address.

20. There you are! If you need to put more pictures on your 3DS, you need to repeat step 10 after moving your pictures to /var/www, otherwise you will get a permissions error on your 3DS.

Have fun!

NOTE: you will find your saved picture under the creation date of the file on your computer. (I.E. if the picture file’s creation date was 1/1/03, you would find it on your 3DS Camera under 1/1/03)
